2016 In (Book) Review

December 21, 2016

Alternate Title: 2016 tried to kill us dead. Here is what I read instead.

But that was a little Suess-ian for a romance writer I thought so I went with 'book review' instead. It might also be a slight exaggeration, but only a slight.

So, here it is - My Very Favorite Books of 2016

And here is what you need to know. First and foremost, I am never ever the first to know anything. Ever. It's just not in the cards for me. So, some of these books were quite possibly published before 2016 and I did not discover them until this year. Just go with me. It will be okay. I promise.

Second - I'm sorta kinda of a picky reader. And with the exception of the YA titles in this list and the Non-Fiction, I generally read what I write. I want it to be hella sexy (read: lots of sex scenes). I want to fall in love with the characters and be completely immersed in their world. I'm a writer so I read a ton. This is a list of only my faves from this year.

Him by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy: Oh my gosh this book! I've read it at least 8 times this year since it was nominated for a Rita award back in March. I love Wes and Jamie so much. They are far and away my favorite couple of the year! Someone should give them an award and also purple Skittles. You have to read the book to get that.

Us by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy: When I got to the end of Him on my first read through I discovered that Sarina and Elle had continued the story. With the fervency of an absolute addict I downloaded Us immediately and tore through it. I'm pretty sure I didn't eat, sleep, or speak to my family until I finished Us.

Serving Pleasure by Alisha Rai: Loved the characters. Love the foodie-ness. Loved the art. Loved the story. Loved, loved, loved the arc of the heroine. Oh my gosh, just go read it! It's fantastic.

And I immediately followed Serving Pleasure with Glutton for Pleasure also by Alisha Rai.

Caged by Lorelei James: This was the final book in Lorelei's Mastered series. I enjoyed the other books even though I'm not much for rope play in my reads but Caged blew me away. I loved it! Deacon and Molly were perfect together.

Mister O by Lauren Blakely: The title, as awesome as it is, doesn't even do the story justice. I loved the hint of geekiness in the hero and the heroine. I loved it all.

Searching for Beautiful by Jennifer Probst: Swoon. That's all I'm going to say. Just swoon.

Idol by Kristen Callihan: Yummy. Very, very yummy.

Steadfast by Sarina Bowen: Gut wrenching hero and plot. Worth every moment!

Camp Firefly Falls first book by Zoe York: I love the concept - A summer camp for adults where things often get naughty. These are fun reads. Check them out.

After Hours by Elle Kennedy: Loved the heroes so hard in this series of novellas.

Summer of Sloane by Erin L. Schneider: Most of this book takes place in Hawaii so of course I read it. It had all of the angst and confusion of a fantastic young adult read. I loved Sloane's arc.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell: This book came out several years ago but it is just so, so good!

Better Than Before by Gretchen Rubin

Find Your Happy by Shannon Kaiser

Aim True by Kathryn Budig

Non-Fiction: Writing

Your A Game by Damon Suede and Heidi Cullinan

The Mental Game of Writing by James Scott Bell

The Successful Author Mindset by Joanna Penn

The Rural Setting Thesaurus by Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi

And there you have it. Please know I read so many fantastic books this year. These are just a few that I've gone back to again and again.

We are in the process of another big, huge move over the next few weeks so I will be in and out. Feel free to email me or message me here or on Facebook or Twitter. I promise I will get back to you as quickly as I can. And if you want to see pics of our big Hawaiian adventure from the past few months check out me out on Instagram.

I love ya! I hope you have a fantastic holiday season and a wonderful 2017!!!!!
