The Random Friday Five!!

June 15, 2018

It's Friday afternoon! Of course, it's also summer time so days are somewhat variable at this point. But, we should celebrate none the less.

So, yay for the weekend!

I'm Random Friday Five-ing a little early today because Hubs and the boys are taking me out for birthday sushi. Yum! I can't wait. I'm also ready and wiling to embrace... thirty-nine! I think. Maybe. I don't know. We'll see.

But for now, let's get our weekly randomness on.

1. Yes, tomorrow is indeed my birthday and I'm honestly excited. I have to tell you thirty-eight had more downs than ups and so I am fully ready to embrace more ups than downs in my last year in my thirties. They were, for the most part, were good to me. So, I want to finish them out with a bang. This weekend we'll celebrate with extended family but tonight it will just be all of my boys and me and as much raw tuna as I can shove in my mouth. Don't picture that. Please. It might frighten you.

2. Today, I did something I haven't done in years. I took the boys to Toys "R" Us one last time. Of course, I took them regularly when they were little but they're in their late teens now so we haven't been in a while. Upon hearing that it was closing soon, we wanted to go one more time. We had fun but it was a touch melancholy. The stores have been picked clean. The boys got a few things and I wondered around the barren aisles and just remembered them as little ones staring wide-eyed at the Thomas the Train table while they waited their turn to play and then the hours we spent there while they painstakingly decided how to spend the twenty dollars Grandma gave them for their birthdays. I have to tell you I'd been prepared for that gut-punch of emotion for things like prom and licenses and graduation ceremonies. I wasn't expecting it today. That's when it really hits you, I think. The small last things that never seemed significant until you stand watching them replay in your mind and you realize they were everything.

{Jillian takes a quick break here to go cry into Youngest's hair while he tries to play Fortnight around her sobbing.}

3. Okay, {wipes eyes} moving on. So, this week we finally finished moving my office. It's still a small disaster but I'm slowly getting it put back together. Everything always moves slower in the summer for some reason, including bookshelf rearranging apparently. I'm slightly less motivated when the temps hit the high nineties here in Hot-lanta. Maybe it's the humidity. Maybe it's how hard I push during the school year. I don't know but I'm trying to let it be. Perhaps, a slightly less vigorous pace is what I need. Of course the boys are going to camp in a week or two and I suspect I'll get tons done then. I hope so at least!

4. If you're in my reader group, you already know this. If you're not, why aren't you? Seriously, that's where ALL the best stuff happens. Anyway, I told the reader group earlier this week that they must immediately go out and purchase Captivated by Tessa Bailey and Eve Dangerfield. Holy wow, Batman! It's been a long, long time since I devoured a book like that. I couldn't put it down. I would become irrationally angry when I had to stop reading. It's that good! Now, like I told my Naughty Nymphs, it's, um fairly kinky so be aware of that and steer clear if that's not your thing. But it is so my thing and I loved it so much!!

{Narrator's aside: Yes, Jillian's loopy mind is capable of discussing kinky books approximately five minutes after she was crying over her kiddos growing up too fast. Don't be alarmed. After thirty-nine years living in her head, she's fully accustomed to this. Really, as long as she has coffee she can handle most things.}

5. I also announced late last night in the reader group (see you really should be in there) that I am indeed working on another Broken HALO novel right now. And the halo being broken belongs to Maddie Clayton. And the HALO jumper doing the breaking would be none other than, Master Sergeant T-Byrd!!! You know, I'm breaking all kinds of rules writing this book. T's book was supposed to be the last in the series. But, my muse had other plans. This is the book that wanted, needed, and must be written next. I'm so excited! And I hope you love T and Maddie as much as you loved Griff and Hannah!!

All right, I'm going to go get ready for sushi. I hope you have a wonderful weekend! I will see you here next week, older and wiser but likely still just as random. ;)
